Finally Anna in fabric.

Finally I have found the time to take the pic and post the blog.  I cannot apologize enough.

Here is Pieced Hexie Star Anna in fabric.

Thank you for sticking it out and waiting.  It’s been a tough couple of weeks here at Chez Depre.  And I have made the decision to share with you one of the stress factors.

Unfortunately a close family member is dealing with another round of cancer. While I cannot share whom and exactly what form out of respect for their privacy I can tell you it is not Paul Sr, either of the kids or myself.  But it is close enough to part of our daily lives too.

We will get thru this.  We have done so in the past.  And we will be stronger and more united on the other side.  That is what love brings to the table in the fight against this awful disease.

So if I am a few days late on some promises…please bear with me.  It’s pretty hectic here.

But I have a lot of good quilty things in the works too and will be able to begin to share this week.

And another one of the hectic items is a good kid thing (actually a few are and I will keep sharing as they become clearer).   Today’s good thing is in just a few hours dear son, Paul Jr., will be flying overhead to a job interview in the Wisconsin.

He is still on the path of completing his Federal Service Officer’s testing but this opportunity has arose and if all goes well (hey the company is paying all his expenses to bring him in for a face to face interview…that’s positive!) I may have him within a two and a half hour car ride from my front door for a few years.

And that makes this mom smile.

…….even though he will be residing “behind the cheddar curtain” as we say here in Chicagoland.

Enjoy the day!

Pieced Hexie Star ANNA

This post will be short and sweet.  Want to get this up before the storms hit.

April’s Pieced Hexie Star is named ANNA.

Anna is the name of two very special people in my life.  My grandmother. Gramp&Gram0001

and Pauli’s girlfriend of several years.

Paul&AnnaRecital2014HendrixSMALLYes….we love her.   Yes….we hope.   ‘nuf said.  Smile

So Anna is a very special name.

I do have a finished ANNA in fabric to show you.  But the overcast skies are proving difficult in taking a picture of this Star’s soft color palette.  Hopefully later today and I will post it.

As always you can find the pattern to the right on the blog.

Enjoy Anna!

Pyramid Hexies

I love a good treasure hunt.

The latest find has arrived home and I am so happy to share.

The minute I saw it on eBay with a “BUY IT NOW” option it was all over.  The ebay app strikes again.   A bit more than I usually part with for a top but it is a setting I have never seen before and I am loving the Red, White and Blue solids.

Just rows of triangles/pyramids.

Simple and Dramatic.

Straight to the point as they say.

By the slight sheen to the fabric and a touch of age smell I am thinking a bicentennial quilt.

It is pretty big at 80 x 82 at this time.  The edges have been cut straight so I can easily add a border.  I am thinking some 6” Sawtooth Stars in patriotic fabrics will do the trick.

Looking closely at the setting I see some inspiration for other settings.

I am loving this quilt top!

And also in the genre of a treasure hunt, the following landed in my email inbox this morning to share.

Looks like Craftsy is having their seasonal “BIG SALE” this weekend.  This one is with a twist.  New classes will be on sale each day.  Friday thru Monday at midnight.

You can click on the image all weekend to check out what the new offering is.

Craftsy Spring Sale: Select online classes up to 75% off. Sale ends Monday, April 8th, at midnight!

Today there are some goodies.  Fabric Patterning with Wax Resist and Celtic Cables (knit class) are in my basket!

A great way to spend my evenings during next weeks trip to Arizona.

Meeting Carol Doak

I have to admit up until about 3 years ago I didn’t foundation piece more than a handful of times in my 20 years of quilting.

But lately it’s a staple at Wild Angel Studio.

So imagine my happiness when Carol Doak and I crossed paths not once but twice in a month! Denver and Charleston!

How often do you get to have dinner with a quilting icon?

I did twice!

It was wonderful to hear her stories of her quilting life, and we shared a few chuckles over like experiences.  And I listened intently to her words of wisdom.  She is a plethora of information.

And we shared furbaby pics.

Her Bailey is adorable.

Obviously one of those encounters was when we were both in Denver shooting our Craftsy classes.   Carol’s was a bit delayed in release due to her schedule but it’s live now!

WOW!

Learning from a master with 20 years in the field teaching is fantastic.

Her “binder clip” tip is priceless and had me reaching for my never ending Office Depot list.

Even if you have foundation pieced many more years than I, lesson 4 which is filled with many more wonderful tips is worth the price of admission.

Carol has provided a link for 25% off on her workshop if you click on her picture.

Now I am back to viewing, and printing, and cutting, and sewing.

This is what parents live for….

Emily works in the marketing department at Hendrix College.  This position has given her a chance to sharpen her Adobe Illustrator skills as she produces the posters for campus events.

It has also provided her parents with many emails with pics attached showing us her latest creations.

Of course I save them all.

Today’s email brought this poster.

My heart be still.  I think she’s got it.

….proud mom.

always.

It's a Hexie Ice Cream Cone Block!

Start hexing now!  This would make a cute set of pillows or a table runner for summer!

You can find the PDF pattern for it at the side of the blog!
