Library Love

When we were looking for the home we live in now one of the things that sold me on this house was it was within walking distance to the library.

I am a library geek.

I can still remember the trips to the library with my mom when that town’s library was literally a store front.  The kids section was just one 12 foot wall with books stacked higher then any kiddo could reach.   I like to say I read the bottom three shelves twice.

Paul and Emily got their library cards at age 4 and our weekly trips began.

It is not uncommon for us to be at the library 2-3-4 times a week picking up a book that has “come in”.  I ask for alot of books.  ALOT of books!  All genres…but yes very heavy in the quilting and knitting dept.

A few weeks ago a book popped up on the email newsletter that the library sends out that caught my attention.   I knew I must see it with my own two eyes.

I got the email yesterday.  It was in.

I was laughing out loud before I even hit the door to leave.

Sometimes you just need a funny book to literally turn to when you need a giggle.

And of course I am gonna show the doxie pic!

I double dog dare ya to check this book out and not giggle.

And to segway into today’s giveaway, I see the return of creative relaxing hand work to my life.  I love to spend hours English Paper Piecing and hand appliqueing with a good movie on the tv or a book on cd playing.  I can listen to books on cd while doing hand work but I get lost if I try when machine piecing.

I have always wanted on of these little caddies for the arm of my side of the couch.

Sit-and-Stitch-sewing-pattern-Taylor-Made-Designs-frontThis pattern called Sit & Stitch Pincushion is by Cindy Taylor Oates.

I vow that by Sept 30th I will have one and I hope one of you will have one too.

So the prize is the pattern and three fat quarters of fabric to get you started.

Post a comment below telling me your dog’s name or any dog you know and I will draw a winner of the Sit & Stitch Pincushion pattern and fabric on Sunday morn!

(pssst….you will definitely want to keep an eye on the blog….I do believe there is an extra book on my desk that needs to leave next).

Enjoy the day!

P.S. still need the street addy of Vickievanphd so I can send out your prize!

I don't think my dog, Wrigley, has ever been swimming. He will wade into a puddle, but since we live in Southern Arizona, lakes or rivers aren't available. My granddogs, Tsunami and Bonzai, visit the Pacific Ocean at the dog beach and lover it! Dogs are the best companions!

HI Mickey
I'll be sure to show you a picture of Hennessy when we meet at the collaboration celebration - I am counting the days! Hennessy is a great dane. She is about 90 pounds and almost completely white. The exception is a paw shaped black spot on her butt. She has been the most wonderful addition to our family.

That book looks great - I think I saw a promo for it too but I haven't seen it in person yet - might have to request it from our library! Our dog's name is Little Bear - she is a mutt - have border collie so half OCD! Love that pattern and the fqs!

My 9 year old grandson is the dog owner here. She is part Golden lab and part Golden Retriever. She loves to swim but does not like baths! He is here as much as he is at home next door and she is always right beside him.

I too have signed up for your hexie class at Craftsy and am hoping to get started soon.

One of our favorite dogs was named Rambo, we called he Ram. He was a gorgeous Golden Retriever who would swim for hours in our pond trying to catch up with the ducks. We miss him.

We named our rescue Sirius. Think Harry Potter. He's a black terrier mutt and looks just like Sirius Black's animagus, only smaller.

We rescued a racing greyhound who has since passed away. We named him Waffel (pronounced waffle). His given name was Warful and we just thought that sounded awful. My 18 month old son could not say Warful correctly, so he called him Waffle (we changed the spelling to to Waffel, closer to his original name). And he was brown too, just like a waffle, LOL!

We have a sweet Golden Retriever mix named Lady and a lively Beagle mix named Jake. They are lots of fun!

Honey - honey-colored cocker spaniel. she was dumped in our neighborhood, had obviously been caged and beaten. Took a month or two before anyone could approach her. Took a year for all of us in the neighborhood to gain her complete trust. She has now been here 13+ years, she is our neighborhood dog. As someone drives home in the neighborhood, she follows them home to say hi. We now slow down to about 5 miles an hour as we creep down the street so her old and permanantly damaged body can keep up with us. She then gets her loving and a "honey snack". She is always extra fat after thanksgiving - she goes to all the houses in the neighborhood. Wow! I just realized - i could write a book on her. My apologies for the long post. I got all emotional. - QuiltingKat

We've had two 'Grandpuppies'. Coco was a wonderfully gentle boxer who stole our hearts and is but a memory now, and Abby is the present Wild Child German Short Hair, but she's all business when she knows that she's hunting! I'm just getting into English Paper Piecing, so your give away would find the perfect home at my place! Thank you for the opportunity to maybe win it! janjanMNTX

Looks like a GREAT book! We have a tri-colored Basset Hound named "Bud" who is spoiled rotten. Although he doesn't really swim, he loves to play around our pond and wade into the water to get his belly wet.

We don't have a dog now, but I did when I was growing up. Our first dog was a small cross-breed named Snoopy. After that came a succession of retrievers and labradors before my folks ended up with a small poodle named Buffy. She used to dig up the carrots and eat them.

My daughter and I recently watched a movie called Hachi starring Richard Gere. It's a 'take the tissues' movie but a true story.

(I love libraries too!)

I received my beautiful Great Dane lady for a Christmas surprise.
So I named her Noel.

My Mother lives next door and her dog's name is Sandy. I like to think the dog is mine too as I keep the yard from having holes dug under the fence and fresh water for the dog. I also walk the dog every evening. Rather she runs circles around me as I walk the 200 yards out to feed the horse and cows. I walk her back on the leash for some training.
Sandy is 7 months and never runs out of energy. She is healthy and happy dog and pretty smart too.
Mother feeds her and has her into the house to play often. So it is a good deal for all.
Sandy is a mix and we are not sure what exactly she is. White with short hair and tan spots and speckles.
I read all the books in the bookmobile every summer. I too love love love books.

I know a dog named Sally - she is my Granddog. She is visiting right now from Iowa (I'm in Texas) and she knows to come to me if she's in trouble - "Grandma" rules! She's a rat terrier/red heeler mix and is very smart.
I too love the library. I'm teaching my "Practice Granddaughter" how to pick out books - she's three and I keep her 1 day a week. My 6 siblings and I used to ride bikes to the library every week during the summer. I taught my 3 boys to enjoy books and the library. I'm always reading - sometimes several books at a time and listening to a different book on tape.
Thanks for the chance on the giveaway.
