A little birdie at the market

                                                  Teaser pic….read on.

Whew, we just returned from the local farmers market.

The bounty was good this week.  Lots of veggies and 10lbs of blueberries to freeze.

But just incase anyone is thinking I have gone totally domestic (for years my tale was “I can burn boiling water) I have the following ditty to share.

Last night while reading an article yet again someone mentioned making Kale Chips.  I thought I need to explore this and made a mental note to myself to seek out and buy some kale at today’s market.

Well Paul was off putting the blueberries (and a watermelon and cantaloupe) in the car I wandered into our fav stand for veggies.  DSC06833

I picked up some green onions, mushrooms, cucumber, and this.

Oops…not kale…leeks.

Oh yeah I wanted to make Leek Soup (never had it before in my life) I told Paul.  He looked at me and laughed knowing full well I goofed.

Tomorrow I will seek out kale at the grocer.  DSC06837

DSC06839And no need to buy raspberries or tomatoes when the “farms” of Chez Depre and Chez In-Laws are giving this type of bounty.

Now onto another giveway for Christmas in July.

IJ967_FriendsofaFeather_IndygoJunction_SewingPatternThis pattern is by indygo junction and I am a big fan.   I just love these little birds.  I envision a flock of them flying around the house during the winter months when bird sightings are far and few between.  I think once my book manuscript is done I might make it a bird a week habit for a bit to get a good flock going by January. I hope you will join me!

DSC06835So leave a comment telling me your favorite bird and I will draw a winner for the pattern and fabric on Friday at 6am CST!

Enjoy your day,

Cardinals and Blue Birds...my two favorite birdies.

As you know I like the eagles, owls & raptors alike, but since I moved to Wisc. My 2 favorites are the Cardinals and the Blue Jay. Most jays in WA are blue & black. I love the ones here w/the added white. They are prettier as far as I'm concerned. But it's a tie for both.

My favorite bird would have to be the Hummingbird! I just love those little things!

My favorite bird would have to be a hawk, love how strong and free they are.

Now that I live in the desert, I really miss the Blue Jays and Cardinals I used to have in my garden. I do have several hummingbirds I love to watch now, but those suckers fly too fast!

I love to see cardinals flying around my yard but I wish we had hummingbirds and blue birds as well.9

Indigo buntings--though I don't see them here very often. Cardinals I love and we have plenty of them.

the cardinal has always been my favourite but after an absence of many years, we have orioles in our back garden. They might just be my favourite this week.

I just have to join in on this one. I love cardinals. They were my mom's favorite and now that she has been gone for seven years, I think of how she enjoyed watching them every time I see one... sigh

I love so many birds, changing often my favorite, which now is the Northern Flicker. If I won the pattern, I'd join you in making a flock by Christmas, one a week 'til then! Thanks!

My favorite bird are owls.

I have always liked Cardinals because they look so pretty against the dark bare branches and the white snow, but we have just moved to the south, so that may change.

My favorite bird is a road runner. And I am lucky enough to have one run around on my land here in Texas. He is just so great looking. They also were my Father's favorite bird. I like the bird pattern. I love kale chips and make them with out any oil or seasoning. I love the crunch and kale flavor. With salads with meat and even with mashed potatoes.
Grow my own kale over the winter but it is gone now that it is so very hot in Texas.

I love cranes and herons. They're so graceful and beautiful. We see them fishing at the local ponds and occasionally flying over our house.

I really like the goldfinches. I love to see their color begin to change in the spring and then to watch them turn bright yellow as the days grow warmer.

I like crows. They are very smart. I live next door to a park and I walk my dog there every day. When they see me coming with my bag of peanuts to feed the squirrels, they follow me around and take their share of peanuts.
